How does the Melissani M1 work?

The M1 Unit has 3 water tanks:

  1. Tap water tank: This is the tank you have to fill to purify water. This is located at the back of the unit.
  2. Waste water tank: This is the smaller tank beside the Tap Water tank and this is where all wastewater or water with impurities goes after the purification process.
  3. Pure Water Reservoir: This is inside the unit and in front, you will see the viewing window of the Pure Water Reservoir. This is where all pure and fresh water is stored after leaving the Tap water tank.

During the purification process, water from the Tap water tank enters the unit. Water without impurities (pure water) goes into the Pure Water Reservoir, while water with impurities goes into the Waste water tank.

Once the Waste water tank is full, the Tap water tank will be empty. This indicates that the pure water is stored inside the unit (Pure Water Reservoir). At this point, you must refill the Tap water tank to allow the M1 Unit to replenish the pure water every time you dispense water for drinking.

When refilling the tank with water, the tank should be removed from the back of the unit to dispose of the water before refilling the tap water tank part. Please also check the floater inside the water tank and make sure that it is floating when you put the tank back on the unit. The water tank has a floater on the right-hand corner (where there's a square rubber) which triggers the "Add Water" sensor.

The way it works is that the floater is magnetic and when water runs out the floating ball touches the base of the water tank. There is a part inside the unit with metal sheets – when the floater touches the base near the metal sheets, the sensor triggers a prompt to add water because the sensor thinks that the water tank is empty.

When the floater is not touching the base of the water tank (floating position) it will not trigger the sensor to turn on the "Add Water" prompt.

How does the 5-stage filtration process work?

Our 5-stage filtration process includes:

  • Polypropylene filter: Removes sediment, rust, dirt, heavy metals and other large particles.
  • Pre carbon filter: Eliminates chlorine, organic chemicals, and odors.
  • 200G reverse osmosis filter: Filters microscopic impurities down to 0.0001 microns, removing even the smallest dissolved contaminants.
  • Post carbon filter: Enhances taste and purity by removing residual organic compounds and chlorine, and by enriching the water with natural minerals including iron, magnesium, and calcium.
  • UV sterilization: Eliminates any remaining microorganisms using ultraviolet light.

How often should I replace the filters?

Two filters inside the unit (PAC and CF) need to be replaced every 6 months and 1 filter inside the unit (RO) needs to be replaced every year.

Your M1 has a Smart Filter Replacement Indicator that measures water flow and tells you exactly when to replace filters, which is every 3000 liters (793 gallons) for PAC and CF filters, and 6000 liters (1585 gallons) for the RO Filter.

Buy replacement filters or subscribe to the filter club. A filter club subscription will send your filters right on time and can be adjusted after purchase to any delivery schedule you like based on your usage. Don’t forget to reset the filter life indicator after replacing the filters!

Why does the unit says PREP and not COLD?

If the water inside the unit has not reached 46°F yet, the display will say PREP as it's still preparing the water to be as cold as 46°F.

It takes an average of 15 minutes to make cold water in the reservoir so it's very important to ensure that the Pure Water tank is full and that the unit is always turned on.

Does my Melissani purified water contain ozone?

Hydrogen production does generate ozone, but the M1 model uses hydrogen and oxygen ion membrane separation technology, in which the oxygen and ozone are expelled outside and do not dissolve into the water. Therefore, there is no ozone in the water.

What are the features and benefits of the Melissani M1 Hydrogen Ion feature?

The Melissani M1 is equipped with a built-in Hydrogen Generator that can generate hydrogen within an internal pure water reservoir. This generator utilizes SPE Electrolysis to enrich the water with molecular hydrogen. The concentration of hydrogen infused in the water is approximately 1400 parts per billion (PPB).

You can observe the hydrogen enrichment process through a window located in the front of the unit, where you'll witness the SPE Electrolysis in action, creating bubbles within the pure water reservoir to increase the concentration of hydrogen. This hydrogen-enriched water is believed to offer various potential health benefits, including improved hydration, antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory effects, enhanced energy and endurance, skin health, cognitive function, metabolic support, and more.

Regarding maintenance, the hydrogen generating portion of the machine requires no specific upkeep. Once installed and operational, the system functions smoothly without the need for regular maintenance tasks.

What is the Clean cycle for?

The filter Clean cycle only needs to be run when you replace the filters/get new filters, or have not used the machine for a long time to remove any built-up debris on the filters. There is also an “Internal Drain” function, which you can run every few days or if you don’t use the machine for a few days, which cleans all internal waterways except the filters. By running this cycle instead of the Filter Flush, you won't have any impact on the filters.

What is Melissani M1's pure to drain ratio?

M1’s Pure:Drain ratio is roughly 1:1. This is 4 times more efficient than standard under-sink RO systems, which produce about 4 gallons of wastewater for every 1 gallon of pure water. M1 has a commercial grade 200G Flux RO membrane (200 gallons per day capacity) which significantly improves the RO process.

M1’s RO membrane enables faster water flow, ensuring filters stay clean and require less energy to operate. M1 is also much quieter than other systems and exerts less stress on the motor which leads to long-term reliability. M1 is a versatile, all-in-one solution for water purification with instant hot & cold water and an oversized 1.5-gallon tank for minimal refilling.

Additionally, M1 is thoughtfully designed with quality materials. Entry-level countertop RO systems commonly have an RO membrane of around 100G, sometimes even less. These products often advertise a high Pure:Drain ratio, without mention of the associated lengthy filtration process, shorter lifespan of the machine and filters, and the less thorough filtration process resulting in weak contaminant reduction / high TDS levels.

What should I do if the water from Waste water tank flows into the Tap water tank?

It's okay for water to flow from the Waste water to the Tap water tank as it will just be filtered by the unit. There's a dedicated Pure water tank which is located in front of the unit with a small viewing window - this is where all pure water is stored.

Should I add electrolytes and other types of minerals to my purified water?

We totally purify the water and let our customers choose what goes in their bodies, in addition to pure water. Choosing and introducing minerals and electrolytes that are diet dependent is not something we want to take on. Instead, we give our customers the freedom to choose anything they like. Some of our customers do add salt to their water after it’s purified for added electrolytes though.

What is the ORP for Melissani?

Our M1 unit delivers as low as -200 ORP which is an excellent number.

What is Melissani M1 RO system's mineralizing capabilities?

Our Melissani M1 RO system removes nearly all dissolved solids in water, which includes minerals, this is the same for any RO system.

We totally purify the water and let our customers choose what goes in their bodies, in addition to pure water. Choosing and introducing minerals that are diet dependent Is not something we want to take on. Instead, we give our customers the freedom to choose anything they like.

If you require the minerals to be through your water and not your food, which is the easiest place to get your minerals, mineral drops are the solution.

Can Melissani M1 create alkaline water?

Yes, M1 has the ability to make alkaline water! The filtration process does not affect the pH of the pure water; however, the H2 function will enrich the purified water with molecular hydrogen and also raise the pH level of your water. The exact pH level will depend on the amount of Hydrogen added, which can be viewed in real time in PPB (Parts Per Billion) of Hydrogen molecules in your H20..

What type of electrolysis is used for the Hydrogen feature?

Melissani M1's Hydrogen feature utilizes SPE Electrolysis for hydrogen enrichment.

What is the numerical display (TDS) in front of the unit and what does it indicate?

TDS is the total dissolved solid in the water. In simple terms, TDS is like counting all the tiny things hidden in your water to see how pure or concentrated it is. It's usually measured in parts per million (ppm) or milligrams per liter (mg/L). Higher TDS might mean your water is not as pure as you'd like it to be, while lower TDS indicates cleaner, purer water.

Bouncing between 1 to 50 is very normal. This is effectively nothing in the water. It is normal to go up and down. However, if you see a consistently higher reading, you should run the filter flush function to clear the filters. The TDS sensor will go much higher if there are higher levels of dissolved solids.

What is the standard voltage for the Melissani M1 machine?

Our Melissani M1 models are specifically designed for 110V-120V operation. Please note that if you decide to use the product in a country with 220V-240V voltage standards, any power-related problems that may occur will not be eligible for warranty coverage.

Why might there be differences in TDS meter readings between the built-in and handheld devices for the Melissani M1?

The built-in TDS meter in our Melissani M1 unit measures the water quality right at the point where it exits the RO system, ensuring that you're getting the most accurate reading of the treated water.

On the other hand, when you use a handheld TDS reader, you might be testing water at a different location or after it has mixed with contaminants from containers. This variation in measurement locations can lead to differing readings.

Also, water quality can change over time. If you use a handheld reader after some time has passed since the water came out of the RO system, it might pick up contaminants that have entered the water afterward.

The built-in meter provides an instantaneous reading, giving you a more accurate reflection of the Melissani M1 system's performance.

The Add Water light on my machine is not going away. What is happening?

The water tank has a floater on the right-hand corner (where there's a square rubber) which triggers the "Add Water" sensor.

The way it works is that the floater is magnetic and when water runs out the floating ball touches the base of the water tank. There is a part inside the unit with metal sheets – when the floater touches the base near the metal sheets, the sensor triggers a prompt to add water because the sensor thinks that the water tank is empty.

When the floater is not touching the base of the water tank (floating position) it will not trigger the sensor to turn on the "Add Water" prompt.

What does the E1 code mean?

E1 error code means that the water filter has been trying to filter water for about 15-30 minutes but no water was filtered, both the Tap water tank and the Pure water tank are empty.

What you have to do is remove the water tank and discard the waste water, refill the tank with tap water (make sure the tank is not seated on the unit when you are refilling the tank), and put the tank back in the unit. Unplug the unit for about 5 seconds and plug it back in to completely reboot the system then turn the unit back on.

It may take around 3 minutes to start filtering water again, if it doesn't start filtering again, please nudge the floater located in the corner of the water tank. The floater has a silicone cover to keep the floater in place so you may need to remove that to access the floater.

How does the Filter Life Indicator work?

The unit will definitely show you the filter life remaining. The numercal indicator 1-2-3 will individually light up depending on which filter needs to be replaced.

Filter indicators turn orange when 20% of filter life remains, and red when it is time to replace the filter. The unit also beeps when you dispense water when it's time to replace your filter.

My Filter Life Indicator has not beeped yet. What should I do?

The filter change indicator's functionality varies depending on usage and water quality. While it typically beeps when a replacement is due, it's possible for the reminder to delay if the filter is still within its optimal performance range.

To ensure accuracy, we recommend checking the numerical indicators on your unit. If they're not indicating a need for replacement and the water quality remains satisfactory, the unit is still functioning correctly. However, if the unit has not prompted you to replace the filters after 7 months, please replace the filters.

What is the flow rate for Melissani M1?

8 oz in approximately 30 seconds would be in line with the expected flow rate. Though this may not be the fastest, it is notably as fast or faster than most other countertop RO systems. Many countertop RO systems have a slower flow rate, but since they dispense water into a carafe, the flow rate is less of a concern. Melissani M1 provides the option of dispensing into any size or type of container.

I am having issues with my Melissani M1 water taste.

Regarding the taste of the water, we would recommend trying one or two additional "Clean" cycles. Some people say RO water is generally more flat tasting due to having lower TDS levels; however, M1's pure activated carbon filter helps improve the taste of the water after the RO filter removes most of the dissolved solids in your water.

The Hydrogen function may be a great option for improving the mouthfeel of the water for you. Contact us if you have any questions on using the Hydrogen function or any other functions.

What should I do if green slime or algae growth develops in my water tank?

Sunlight is the main cause of algae growth. This is not because of the unit itself but because of sunlight shining on the tank with water inside over a long period. Here are the steps we suggest taking.

  1. Run the Filter Flush Program
  2. Clean the water tank with soap and hot water, or in the dishwasher
  3. Move the unit to a location out of direct sunlight
  4. Clean the tank once a week
  5. Run the Clean function once a week

This will prevent any algae from forming, but it's worth noting that the algae can never enter your drinking water, like any other particle it will be filtered, which is why it ends up in the waste water tank.

How can I adjust the hot temperature on my Melissani M1 machine?

To adjust the temperature, simply press the HOT button for a few seconds, then use the '8oz' or '12oz' buttons as '+' or '-' to set the desired temperature between 185°F to 203°F.
